Started driving horses early!  Possibly 1904-05

Herbert Melvin Olson was born August 17, 1900, the only son of Otto and Hanna Bergstrom Olson.  He grew up on the family farm about 4 miles northeast of Nelson, MN.  He said he went to "Swede School" in the summer, and skied to country school in the winter.  He loved the land, farming, and animals.  He was gentle, kind, and always had a twinkle in his blue eyes.  Never had a bad word to say about anyone.  As a young man he worked on grain farms in North Dakota for a short time.  Herbert married Lina Margaret Swore on September 5, 1929.  He died October 12, 1982 in Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.  See page of Lina Margaret Swore Olson for the history of Herbert and Lina's life together.  See also the Hanna Bergstrom Olson page for Herbert's family history.
