Judy Alcott
I was born September 15, 1944, the eight child of Herbert and Lina Swore Olson. From first through eighth grades I attended District 44, also known as Carol School, a one-room country school about three miles west of our farm. I then went to middle and high school in Alexandria, and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962.
I moved to Minneapolis following high school graduation and worked at various clerical and secretarial jobs. On June 27, 1964 I married Dean Alcott, and we lived in New Hope, MN, a suburb of Minneapolis. We had two children: Jason Emery, born July 14, 1969, and Karin Linnea, born May 5, 1973. Dean graduated from Dunwoody Vocational School as a Master Electrician, and worked in that field. I continued to work part-time as a secretary. In July 1975 we purchased Osakis Meats and Processing in Osakis, MN, and we moved there. We operated that for five years, then sold Osakis Meats and Dean started his own electrical contracting business, Osakis Electric. I did the bookkeeping for both companies and also received my Emergency Medical Technician and as served as a volunteer on the Osakis Ambulance Service. I received my real estate license and worked as a realtor in Osakis and Alexandria from 1983 to 1987. I also was the first woman elected to the Osakis City Council and served for five years. I helped to organize Osakis Economic Development Corporation and served on its Board for about six years. Both Jason and Karin graduated from Osakis High School. Dean and I divorced in September 1987.
I moved to Alexandria and returned to school while working as a food buyer for a local wholesale grocery company. I graduated as an RN in 1991, and in 1993 I moved back to Minneapolis. After working in various hospitals as an RN, I worked as a medical case manager, then became a department manager to assist in the start-up of a Medicare program for an insurance company. I later served as Director of Development for a St. Paul non-profit. I returned to school again and graduated with a BS in Organizational Administration from the University of Northwestern in 2003.
Jason graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in Biology. He married Bobbi Arndt February 16, 2002, and they currently live in Roseville, MN. Their son, Jacob Gary, was born November 30, 2005.
Karin married James Parson September 9, 1995, and they had three children: Laura Linnea, born November 29, 1994, Shannon Nicole, born December 5, 1996, and Shane Michael, born August 22, 1998. They lived on a hobby farm northwest of Cambridge, MN. Jim and Karin divorced in January, 2013.
Laura and her partner, Alec Taylor, had a baby boy, Wesley Wayne Taylor, born June 6, 2018.
